First-Ever in North America

Aquaman: Power Wave is the first ride of its kind to debut in North America. Built by Mack Rides, this high-thrill PowerSplash attraction features both forwards and backwards launches, reaching top speeds of sixty-three miles per hour. The water coaster also includes two spikes that stand at 148 feet tall and send riders plummeting ninety degrees. After multiple launches along the attraction’s 712-foot track, Aquaman: Power Wave ends with a huge splashdown.

Cutting-Edge Ride Technology

Are you wondering how Aquaman: Power Wave avoids creating its splashdown until the final drop? The attraction is designed with a dam-like structure that surrounds the submerged piece of track. For most of the ride cycle, water is kept out of the track area. Moments before the splashdown is set to occur, water is rapidly released to prepare for the water coaster’s wet finale. Pumps immediately remove water after the boat has passed through, preparing the ride for its next cycle of riders.

Aquaman: Power Wave features three separate launches. Powered by reliable LSM (linear synchronous motor) technology, these forwards and backwards launches propel the ride unit to sixty-three miles per hour with more than 2,000 hps. This same technology can be found on a number of other Mack Rides attractions, including Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood Studios and Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City. This technology also eliminates drive system wear and tear, ensuring a higher rate of longevity for the roller coaster.

Construction Challenges

When construction began in 2019, Aquaman: Power Wave was set to operate with only one boat. By December 2020, Six Flags worked with Mack Rides to reengineer the attraction to feature a turntable for two-boat operations. The new direction saw another intense construction process that included removing segments of track, along with demolishing the original station foundation. With the turntable, Aquaman: Power Wave cycles more efficiently, allowing for higher hourly throughput. While one boat is in operation, the second sits in the station for riders load and unload. Aquaman: Power Wave also features an automated restraint system, creating a more efficient loading and safety check process.
